Υπέρ ενός δίκαιου «ανοικτού κώδικα»;

Για(τί) συνταγματική αναθεώρηση;

The Golden Dawn in Comparative Perspective

The purpose of this brief note is to try placing the Golden Dawn in the universe of far right politics in Europe.
The Golden Dawn shocked many observers of Greek politics by receiving 7% in the last elections and it is now polling between 11-12%.  The party has been around for at least two decades, with dismal results whenever it participated in Greek elections – in 2009, it received 0.29%.

Combatting Populism in Europe: Could the UK Be the Exception that Proves the Rule

We are kidding ourselves if we think that Europe’s ‘mainstream’ political parties can get together to tackle their populist and extremist challengers.  The reason is simple: the implications of populist radical right success are not the same for the centre-right as they are for the centre-left.  Interestingly, one of the exceptions to this rule could be the UK, although whether or not the Conservative and Labour Parties realise this – especially given the quality of the immigration debate in the country’s print media – is a moot point.

Becoming True European Citizens: The Only Way out of the Crisis (and beyond)?

Citizens of the European Member States seem to be resorting back to Euroscepticism and show clear signs of cold feet regarding the single market / single currency project (reality?). According to the December 2012 Eurobarometer, 40% of the population of the EU Member States is against the European economic and monetary union with a single currency (with an additional 7% showing scepticism or, simply, lack of knowledge about the project).

A Case for “Open Source” Law?

The law applies universally, and, therefore, has to be “executed” by all members of society; however, it is written in a language (a “code”) that is understood only by experts. We believe that this discrepancy is problematic. Furthermore, what is perhaps equally problematic is that lawmakers have difficulty receiving input from the members of society on how laws are performing. Toward addressing these problems, in this article, we advocate the creation of Lawpedia, a knowledge system based on the peer-production paradigm where laws are explained in plain language and feedback about the laws is gathered as one coherent input to the lawmakers and governments.
